So I just found this list while looking for some pics of Irwindale Speedway today (I can’t believe the drifting season is ending already!):
ZipTied’s Top 20 Drift cars of all time
Hey look at that, my sileighty is in the list. Wow really? Of all time? That’s pretty big. The poll was asked of ziptied.com members and it was posted as “what cars do YOU feel are the most influential, iconic, memorable, drift cars of all time”. I for sure don’t think my car should even be considered in that context, but I’m flattered nonetheless.
It’s kind of interesting to look at the results because you get an idea that the people on ziptied have a unique outlook. I remember back in the day watching drifting videos with Andy Yen and others… Haruguchi was definitely a memorable character, but not necessarily a top influencer. The ziptied guys LOVE him because of his ride height and crazy car/driving style. With ziptied members posting all over the place about how much Haruguchi is the coolest drifter of all time, suddenly people love him to death. He’s #2 on the ziptied list. Kind of crazy how that happened. You will also notice that in the list there are a lot of cars built more recently, which probably says that the people who voted are of a newer generation of drifting.
What’s your top 20 list? Actually 20 is pretty hard… here’s my top 15? I would tend to think about the cars that influenced me and made me want to get into drifting. Here’s my go at it:
1. Koguchi – black 180sx
2. Imamura – brown ae86
3. Taniguchi – red hks s15
4. Kumakubo – orange s15
5. Utsumi – blue onevia
6. Ueno – red soarer
7. Nomuken – white s14
8. Alex Pfieffer – various ae86s
9. Kamimoto – red supercharged ae86
10. Ueo – cream ae86
11. Fukuda – yellow 180sx
12. Hiroshi Takahashi – red ae86
13. Keiichi’s TRD AE86
14. DJ Electrique Mike – blue S13
15. All of those beautiful Night Walkers sedans
The sun finally came out on day 3 of our trip. We got up early to take advantage of the good weather, but first we had a quick breakfast around the corner.

The walls opened up which was really nice!

Then we went over to SoHo, which is a big shopping area. The feel of SoHo was drastically different… things seemed a lot more relaxed here, and the buildings seemed a little less cramped. It felt a lot like Old Town Pasadena to me with the relaxed atmosphere and tons of little clothing shops.

Next stop was Battery Park where we could get a view of the Statue of Liberty. We were short on time, so we didn’t actually take the ferry over to it.

In battery park was this small memorial to the World Trade Center.

We passed through Chinatown and Little Italy… the destination was Katz’s Delicatessen. I love pastrami – but after eating here, I realized I’ve NEVER HAD pastrami! When you order this $14 sandwich on rye, the person at the counter brings out a big steaming slab of meat and slices off a few pieces for you try just to make sure that you want it. It’s kind of like tasting the wine at a nice restaurant before they pour you a glass… except instead of wine, you get hot juicy meat.

I’m having a hard time thinking… pastrami on the brain… the rest of the pics are below. On the way to Rockefeller Center, we stopped at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Then we went to the roof of the Rockefeller Center. Then super nice dinner at Daniel NYC.

Sorry, not a lot of pics from Daniel… what do you expect? It’s a nice restaurant… and I didn’t want to be the little kid there on a special occasion while others seemed to be eating at their nightly spot for some wine and good food. The ambiance was the nicest I’ve ever seen… the service was impeccable and the food was good too. Ever notice at really nice French restaurants that you can never understand what the waiter is saying through his heavy accent? Oh did I mention that it’s EXPENSIVE? Holy moly… I am probably never going there again.
Kristy has been bugging us to death about wanting to eat pizza lately, and I really don’t like to get pizza very often. Instead of forcing some Pizza Hut or Papa John’s down my throat, we went out to Westwood for something better. Lamonicas used to be in downtown LA but years ago they moved out to Westwood, which SUCKS because it’s far and because parking is a nightmare and I rarely ever want to go because of it.
Inside, you find a lot of New York City decor… subway signs, posters, paintings…
The place is really small with a counter full of pre-cooked pizzas and a small place to eat in the back. When you order, they pop your slices of pizza into their oven and then serve it to you. Everything is just like a typical pizza shop in NY – except no beer. SUCKS!
It was a good time to have pizza here because we just came back from NY, which means it’s time to compare authenticity. When I eat NY pizza, the regular cheese pizza is where it’s at. Or maybe a cheese and mushroom. The pizza is pretty good… the slices aren’t as big, but it’s really nice to what it was like in NY.
And here’s some pics of the happy family.
Although the drive and parking sucks, I would definitely go anytime I’m in the area, and so should you! If you’re local they also deliver.
