Today… smelled gas while looking under my car. Took the car down from the lift, and couldn’t smell a thing. Pulled off the oil cap and viola. Smelled like gas. Obviously, this isn’t a good thing. It’s supposedly either a piston ring or valve seal. So what to do now? I’m not sure yet… I have 2 choices in mind: get another sr20det. gather parts and rebuild the motor. make it good and strong. OR, I can just gather the parts and have somebody do it for me on my current motor. The 2nd one doesn’t sound fun at all. I would love to rebuild the motor… the heart of my car, with every piece carefully placed by me. But who knows yet. I’m researching still. Also, my thermostat is gone. Greeeeat. Another hard to find part has gone out on my car. What to do, what to do… I’m still figuring that one out too. I know a lot of people run without the thermostat. But I’d like to have it. Last but not least, I’m still researching on coilovers. I’ve found Cusco Comp-2 coilovers for cheap. Thinking about that one… and I hope to get my gracer side steps soon. I haven’t gotten a good hour or 2 of good drift practice in a while… I feel like I haven’t really progressed and its kinda sad. But I have been gripping faster at touge. My brakes glow now. My wheels are all hot when I’m done. My turbo glows too, but I’ve been doing that for a while now. Anyway, I’m having fun with grip, but I still wanna get out there and get better at drifting… the sidebrake technique is still a hard one to get used to.

Hey everybody. Happy New Years. Two things that need to be done on this webpage: a links page, and a ‘recent updates’ section. Went to Hollywood Park last weekend for the auto-x. Auto-x is a really strange but unique thing… I was understeering like MAD all day. Towards the end, I was starting to keep it under control, but man was it bad. I’ve heard that it’s my driving style, since I’m so used to driving at touge… the two are completely different! My girlfriend did pretty well too for her first time out on the track. Who would have thought that I’d have a girlfriend that is a 240sx nut. Not me, that’s for sure. So what’s next for my car… still want to get a racing seat and a good seatbelt harness. I haven’t really been looking very hard to tell you the truth. I think it’s because I’m not too thrilled on spending the money. PLUS, I need new suspension. My shocks are dead, and my tires rub the fenders really bad when I’m at touge.

The first journal entry under www.sileightymania.com… How do you all like it? Please go to the BBS and speak your mind. Hopefully the board won’t be filled with questions asking how to smog an SR20DET. So lets see… what has happened since the last journal entry… I’ve been practicing my drifting a lot… everytime I do I get better. Right now I’m trying to drift at higher speeds. I wasn’t satisfied with the length of the drifts at lower speeds so I’m slowly increasing my speeds. Right now I’m at about 45mph in 2nd gear. It’s pretty hard, but I’m getting the hang of it.

I put in an order for my Tein HA coilovers yesterday… do I really need them? No… But I DO need camber plates and a lower center of gravity, so I figured I might as well buy them. I also need to get a racing seat and harnesses… right now I’m considering sabelt 4-pt harnesses because they are cheap, and as for seats… It is really important to sit in them for a while to make sure they fit you well… I’ve sat in 2 different adjustable Recaros (cheap) and a non adjustable Bride seat (30 minutes each seat). They both fit pretty well. I love the way the Bride holds me.

Drift practice earlier today… I’ve learned the secret to sidebrake drifting and brake drifting in my car. I have much more control now… even with my high grip tires in the rear (Potenza RE71 225/50/15) I was getting really sideways… and it wasnt very hard either. I will get good soon, I can feel it. It is so much easier to control the sidebrake drift than my usual clutch drifting. With more practice, I will be able to keep the drifts even longer than I have been… but it is kinda hard being the only one of us drifting with a high horsepower turbo car. Turbo lag sucks for drifting! Anyway, I am still at about 45mph in second gear, but with more control now. I am way more comfortable. Touge tonight… Merry Christmas everyone.

Yay speedtrial

Although there was no drifting, Speedtrial was fun. I learned the limits of my tires and my crappy brakes. I had a good time. My next project is getting some seatbelt harness and a seat. My stock setup is my restricting factor right now… that and my brakes. Anyway, I have a phat hole in my muffler. It’s the coolest thing ever. I’ll take a picture for all you funny picture fans…
