New Engine

As of today, there are 3 days left before the RS-R drifting event, and my car isn’t ready. What else is new?? Last weekend, Cartune helped me out and put a kouki 180sx engine in my car… But since then, my clutch master cylinder has needed replacing, and now there’s a boost leak that we can’t find. Tuesday night, after changing my LSD oil at KAAZ, Neen, Kris, and I went to go eat in Costa Mesa… then I found out that some JERK in the parking lot hit my car hard, and completely crumpled my fender! And took off without leaving a note! Things like this remind me what complete jerks there are out there… and it’s also a reminder for me that I need to be a good honest person so that I don’t anger people the way that I was angered from my newly crumpled fender. Ahh, I guess it doesn’t matter – what can I do? Bang it out with a fender and pretend it’s not there! Well, I’m gonna go work on my car right now and try to find out how all my power is leaking out of some place. Wish me luck… I’ll see you guys on Sunday!

The April 6th RS-R event is coming up… I’ve decided that I want to compete. Check out Club4AG.com for event details! After my last event I’ve realized in what sad shape my car is in for what I want it to do. For regular events where we are just having fun, it is perfectly fine… But when I’m up against other people who have their cars running well, then it’s not so good. There’s kind of no point for me to compete and hope to do well in this state. I am actually contemplating on getting another engine, something that runs in near brand new condition. I think I’ll need something like that in order for my car to not hold me back. In other parts of my life, things have been kind of awkward. I’ve gotten a lot of attention since that last event, including magazine editors, photographers, and companies interested in sponsorship. SEMA has published an article about all the money there is to be made in the booming drift scene. I have first hand experience in that. Haha. Well, I hope everything turns out well for our new scene… I hope the money hungry companies out there do their best in making sure not to exploit us regardless of what it does to our growing scene. Also, I’m having some reservations about all of the competitions we’ve been having recently. I know that competitions are good because it drives people to become better… but sometimes I think that it might cause us to lose sight of why we are even doing this in the first place – to have fun and build companionship with fellow enthusiasts. Eyeing the nice 6 foot trophy and the fame? Just make sure to remember – have fun and make friends, not enemies! This sport will die if we all don’t enjoy each other’s company. I, for one, would be the first person to stop attending competitions if the wrong attitude ever starts up.

Drift Day 4

Last Saturday was Drift Day 4 hosted by Club4AG. The event, as usual, was GREAT. A lot of people surprised me with their enthusiasm to learn, and a lot of people surprised me with how quickly they’ve built their skills. It was an exciting day for me… because I had the chance to go out onto the skid pad with Nadine and get her used to making some circles with her rear tires. She did great… and I can’t wait to teach her harder things like weight transfer and stuff. Honey, don’t be discouraged if you aren’t out drifting in 2nd gear on your first day… you need to learn to crawl before you can walk… and I’ll do whatever I can to make sure that you can crawl better than anybody else :)

As for me, I didn’t get much track time since I was staff, but for the few times I WAS out there, I did pretty well. Kenji told me to go faster… so that day I learned to throw my car into a turn way faster than I ever would, and let the sliding slow my car for the proper entry speed of the turn. It’s kinda like watching D1 at Ebisu except at a pitiful beginner’s level – Hahaha. Anyway, I will be working hard to get over my nervousness, and at the same time I’ll be working hard on getting better… faster… working on the small details… working on being more consistent at high speeds… and adapting to new track layouts quickly.

The event last friday was a huge success! Akira Iida, Dai, Nomuken, and Tarzan Yamada were all at Irwindale Speedway for an ikaten… I’m really happy for Andy, Javier, and Alex P. They put on a great show for everybody that night! As for me, it was a pretty embarrassing night. I let my nerves get the best of me… and I cracked under the pressure (that I put on myself!) So at least now I know that I have a problem to get over… so I’m going to do my best to get rid of all the nervousness. I’ll probably do it by going to every single contest until I get used to people watching and judging me…

So… I realized that I was driving at the last event at Willowsprings on 3 cylinders. One of the bolts holding my coil pack snapped… So I ended up changing the whole valve cover anyways, since they aren’t too expensive. After that, I still need to change my lsd oil, my engine oil… and maybe a few other things. I’m really nervous about this friday. I know I shouldn’t be, but I can’t help but think about this all day long now. I hope my car and my tires will hold up, along with my nerves. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, there is something huge coming up this Friday, and I think it will change things for us for a long time. I’ll fill you guys in after Friday. Wish me luck!!!

Happy New Year! If you’re into drifting, you’re in for a hell of a year this year, because all kinds of crazy things are happening. Keiichi Tsuchiya, Nomuken, Dai, and Tarzan Yamada are coming to see us drift… there is a possibility of drifting getting huge in the United States. I hope things turn out for the best. Anyway, I’m trying to get my car in top shape so that it doesn’t seem TOO crappy when all these celebrities from Japan see it. So last night I put in a Blitz new boost meter and turbo timer that Neen and Jeff got me for Christmas. They look great, and I’m happy that I have a cup holder again. Hahaha! So far, everything is running ok, except for some reason my engine is getting really bad gas mileage, and it’s still getting a little weak… I’m entertaining the thought of getting a new one. Anyway, this year seems like a pretty promising and exciting year. Hope to see you all on at the track!
